Rows of colorful candy packets at Davidson of Dundee in Dundee, FL

Dundee

The town of Dundee sits along the rolling hills of the Lake Wales Ridge and was built on the wealth of Florida’s citrus industry. Just south of Haines City, Dundee is home to a candy factory so special it was featured on Food Network.

Top Things To Do in Dundee

Davidson of Dundee began in the early 1900’s with T.W. Davidson’s orange, grapefruit and tangerine groves located near Dundee, Florida. Today, Davidson of Dundee is still growing those juicy citrus fruits; and they now offer one-of-a-kind marmalade, jellies, coconut patties, and chocolates as well. But if you want to take part in a true Central Florida confectionery tradition, you have to try their citrus delicacy candies.

Candy and marmalade are slow cooked in copper kettles, one batch at a time – the traditional way. Best of all, the ingredients used are native to Florida, including citrus fruits grown in their own groves and pure cane sugar from the everglades. Davidson of Dundee’s sweet treats are so popular that when the season hits, they make 4,000-lbs of marmalade and 3,600-lbs of candies every day.

Dundee Activities

Celebrate the history of the Atlantic Coast Line during a visit to the Margaret Kampsen Historic Depot. The Depot features original architecture, houses historical artifacts, and gives visitors the chance to explore an authentic 1968 caboose. The Depot is open Tuesday – Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Bless This Mess Thrift & Antiques is a cute little vintage shop on Main Street, right down the block from Melonies Café. Shop till you drop and then dine on one of Melonie’s 15 bodacious burgers, macho nachos or a Boar’s Head sandwich.

If you’re still in the mood to shop, head to Southern Comfort Antiques for Depression glass, Florida Highwaymen art, estate jewelry, antiques and vintage items in their 4,000-sqr foot air conditioned mall.
