The Poor Porker

Beignets and tacos and beer, oh my! A mix of food trucks, shabby chic and beer hall, The Poor Porker is as diverse and eclectic as its clientele. And while the beignets – hot, fresh and dosed in powered sugar – may be the stars of the show, the bar, with an array of coffee, beer, cider, wine and even sake to sample, shouldn’t be missed.

New Orleans Style Beignets

Lakeland is the home of The Poor Porker, once a food truck selling beignets and coffee. Today, you’ll find these famous beignets at 801 E. Main St. In addition to a permanent location, The Poor Porker has gotten rather creative with their beignet arrangements by creating a variety of mouth-watering flavor combinations. Their unique take on the traditional beignet has made a lasting impact on their customers, and that’s why they keep coming back for more.

Beignet Flavors

While the menu might be simple, the flavors sure aren’t. The Poor Porker offers several different types of beignet flavors, two of which you’ll always see: The Traditional, covered in powdered sugar, and The Poor Porker, drizzled with maple syrup and sprinkled with applewood smoked bacon. Other flavors might be introduced as seasonal items like The Citrus Bliss, where the use orange infused olive oil and orange zest to accompany the powdered sugar, or they might bring an item back based on popular demand. The Brown Butter Caramel is a good example. It has house made brown butter caramel with a sprinkle of maldon salt to top it off.

Taco Truck & Bar Calexico

At night, indulge in a great selection of wine, local beer and specialty drinks while listening to live music. You’ll also find a taco truck onsite, so bring your appetite and desire to meet interesting people.

The Poor Porker, located near downtown Lakeland, is open Friday – Sunday.
