Florida State Park in Lakeland
Colt Creek State Park covers 5,067-acres and is in the heart of Central Florida’s Green Swamp Wilderness Area, which is just north of the Withlacoochee River in Lakeland.
Visitors can hike or horseback ride on more than 12-miles of marked trails through pine flatwoods, cypress domes, and hardwood hammocks. Trails may be sandy or wet, so wear hiking shoes. Most importantly, bring sunscreen, a hat, water and insect repellent.

Camping at Colt Creek State Park
RV and Tent Camping
This State Park has 27 full-facility campsites and 6 tent only sites nestled in the pine flatwoods.
- Each site has 30 and 50 amp hookups
- Some sites can accommodate rigs up to 70′
- Dump station and bathhouse onsite
Equestrian Camping
The equestrian campground is a primitive campground that has 10 sites that will accommodate horse trailers.
- No amenities at the site except a port-o-let
- Pack all supplies in and out
- Dumpster is available at the ranger station
Primitive Camping
Two primitive camps are located at different locations along the Flatwoods trail. These camps are only accessible by foot, horseback or mountain bike.
- Pack in/pack out tent camps
- No water, electricity or restrooms
- Nearest camp is 2 miles from the parking area
Paddling
The park has 2 lakes for canoes and kayaks. If you don’t have your own, then rent them at the ranger station on Mac Lake.
